Canadian Sailing Race to be named after Bamse

News from Halifax, Nova Scotia, where a sailing race for teenagers is to be named after Bamse!

Steinar Engesett, a successful businessman of Norwegian descent, first heard about Bamse during the statue fund raising campaign, and was so enchanted that he became a substantial donor.

A great supporter of WWII Norwegian navy veterans organisations, he has sponsored various sailing events including the Convoy Cup in memory of the war effort.

The new race is planned for September 2008, and is for teenagers, to make them aware of the wartime sacrifices of their forebears.  It has been proposed that each participant will receive a copy of the book Sea Dog Bamse as a momento.
